October 12-14, 2020 - Innovative Imaging of the Human Eye Congress

INNOVATIVE IMAGING OF THE HUMAN EYE: i2Eye Congress

Autumn course - October 12-14, 2020 - Paris

High resolution imaging technologies, exemplified by adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy (AOO) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) are progressively transferring from the lab to the clinic. This is an opportunity to better understand retinal diseases, to optimise their management but also to provide novel biomarkers for other medical specialities. However, there is still an unmet need in the field of clinical interpretation of AOO images, and more importantly in the integration of AOO into clinical practice.

In this context, the FRCRnet network is organising an autumn course on adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy, OCT and holography, that will take place in Paris, on October 12th to 14th, 2020. This year, the multidisciplinary nature of retinal imaging will be expanded through a series of sessions mixing physicists, biologists and ophthalmologists around specific medical issues. The congress will be devided in sessions on RPE, photoreceptors, vessels, optic nerve layer and anterior segment. Speakers from complementary fields of expertise (ophthalmology, physics, biology, mathematics) will address each topic. This is a unique opportunity to cross-fertilize fields of knowledge for a better understanding of diseases and for better clinical care.

Poster sessions, visit of the high resolution imaging unit of the Quinze-Vingts Hospital and of the Vision Institute, and specific training on the rtx1 will take place around the conference room.

Organisation

Day 0: Transdisciplinary course on biological, physical and medical aspects - BASICS

Day 1

  • CONGRESS (part 1)
  • Poster sessions
  • Optional: visit of the high resolution imaging unit (Quinze-Vingts Hospital) and of the Vision Institute (limited to 20 attendees)

Day 2:

  • CONGRESS (part 2)
  • Poster sessions
  • Optional: AOO hands-on course, a specific clinical training on the rtx1 at the Quinze-Vingts Hospital (limited to 10 attendees)

The presentations will be in English.

Content

DAY 0 - October 12: Transdisciplinary course on biological, physical and medical aspects of retinal imaging

This course will resume the basics on high-resolution retinal imaging. It will take place at the Quinze-Vingts Hospital and mainly addressed to students, post-docs, physicists and ophthalmologists wishing to have an overview of retinal imaging techniques.

DAY 1 - October 13: CONGRESS, posters and visits

The first day of the congress will be devoted to the theoretical training of the attendees. It will be divided in three sessions: anterior segent, retinal and choroidal vessels, and optic fibers/ganglion cells. Speakers from complementary fields of expertise (ophthalmology, physics, biology, mathematics) will address each topic.

Poster sessions will be organised between the different presentations of the congress.

 ► Visits (optional):

Specific registration is required for these visits and the number of attendees is limited: if you want to participate, please advise us when you fill in your online registration form.

At the end of the day, two groups of 10 attendees will be invited to visit the high resolution imaging unit (Quinze-Vingts Hospital) to see the technologies under development and will have the opportunity to experience clinical imaging on patients and controls with these devices.

A visit of the Vision Institute (biological laboratories) is also planned.

DAY 2 - October 14: CONGRESS, posters and clinical training

This second day of congress will take place in the morning and will be divided in two sessions: RPE/AMD/myopia, and photoreceptors. Speakers from complementary fields of expertise will address each topic.

Poster sessions will be organised between the different presentations of the congress.

 ► AOO hands-on course (optional):

Specific registration is required for this course and the number of attendees is limited: if you want to participate, please advise us when you fill in your online registration form.

In the afternoon, a group of 10 attendees will see demonstrations of the rtx1 camera in controls and patients. Participants will have the possibility to perform examinations on each other, during which the various structures observable by adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy will be commented. New high resolution imaging systems at the Quninze-Vings Hospital will also be presented. A clinical case presentation will follow. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own clinical cases for discussions.
