CONDOR is the national clinical research network dedicated to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Accredited by F-CRIN since 2025, it brings together French experts in the field to accelerate the development of new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and management, while enhancing the visibility and appeal of French clinical research on COPD.
CONDOR, the clinical research network on COPD
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also known as COPD, is a heterogeneous respiratory disease that is still too often underdiagnosed and inadequately managed. Despite existing treatments, many patients remain symptomatic, experience exacerbations and a progressive decline in lung function, or die prematurely.
To promote research on this condition, a new clinical research network has been created at the initiative of the COPD Working Group of the French-Speaking Society of Pulmonology: CONDOR. The network is managed by Université Paris Cité and has been accredited by F-CRIN since 2025.
Its main areas of research are as follows:
- develop new strategies for prevention and early detection of COPD through a better understanding of the disease’s progression
- gain a better understanding of uncontrolled COPD through a more detailed characterization of clinical presentations and the mechanisms involved
- develop precision medicine for COPD based on innovative therapeutic approaches.
CONDOR also aims to be the central hub for clinical research on COPD in France by supporting project leaders in setting up their studies and by centralizing and disseminating information related to trials conducted in French centers specializing in COPD.
For example, its goal is to establish an open national platform for clinical research on COPD that brings together all stakeholders in clinical and basic research on the subject to:
- support translational projects and innovative clinical trials
- contribute to improving clinical care practices through projects in implementation science.
Through all of these objectives, the network will help raise the profile of French clinical research on COPD both nationally and internationally.
Organization
The CONDOR network is currently coordinated by a Steering Committee composed of Professors Nicolas Roche, Maeva Zysman, Olivier le Rouzic, Pierre-Olivier Girodet, and Drs. Bruno Ribeiro-Baptista, Gaëlle Weisenburger , and Lucile Regard.
Other founding members of the network: Professors Bruno Degano and Gaetan Deslée, Drs. Thierry Perez and Marina Guecamburu.
To carry out its activities, the network also relies on several committees (scientific, strategic, and external advisors) and on partnerships with other F-CRIN networks (CRISALIS, MUST, INNOVTe, and Myco-NET).
The CONDOR network’s scientific project is further organized around 3 Working Groups and 3 Task Forces.

- WG1: Early Detection, Trajectories, and Determinants
- WG2: Uncontrolled COPD, Phenotyping, Endotyping, and Treatable Traits
- WG3: Personalized Medicine and Innovative Strategies
The Task Forces (TF):
- TF1: Healthcare System Organization and Health Economics
- TF2: Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs)
- TF3: Biomarkers
- Physiology/function: respiratory function, exercise, muscles
- Imaging
- Biology: omics, models / organoids, biomarkers, micro- and myco-biome
- Digital: sensors, remote monitoring, artificial intelligence (prediction)
Finally, the CONDOR network brings together about thirty clinical centers and research laboratories working on COPD throughout the country. It thus provides academic and industrial partners with easier access to patients with COPD and enables them to design and conduct innovative clinical trials in this field.
