Established in 2012, F-CRIN—which stands for French Clinical Research Infrastructure Network—is a national infrastructure dedicated to advancing French clinical research. It is led by Inserm in partnership with hospitals, healthcare companies, and universities, and supported by the National Research Agency and the Ministry of Health.
Our Mission
F-CRIN's mission is to strengthen the competitiveness of French clinical research by creating a collective scientific and operational momentum that benefits patients.
To achieve this, we rely on three pillars:
- bringing together clinical research stakeholders,
- developing professionals’ expertise by pooling know-how, resources, and capabilities,
- accelerating the adoption of new practices and the development of new therapeutic solutions.
Our Organization
F-CRIN is based on a federative model that is unique in Europe, currently bringing together 29 complementary components dedicated to clinical research in France: 27 clinical research networks and platforms accredited by F-CRIN, 1 national coordination unit, and 1 support platform for the design and conduct of clinical trials.
The 27 F-CRIN-accredited networks and platforms cover a wide range of medical topics related to major public health issues and fields in which France has recognized expertise.

F-CRIN also relies on ForceXpert, a platform that supports the design and conduct of clinical trials, integrated into the Infrastructure.
Finally, F-CRIN Coordination, based in Toulouse, coordinates the Infrastructure and supports all of its networks and platforms in their missions, projects, and development. A joint service unit (UMS 015) bringing together Inserm, the Toulouse University Hospital, and the University of Toulouse—and ISO 9001-certified since 2017—it fulfills three key functions: representing the F-CRIN Infrastructure, providing shared support services to its networks and platforms, and fostering collective initiatives to advance the development of French clinical research.

Our Governance
The F-CRIN infrastructure is based on a Consortium Agreement, the founding document that serves as its legal foundation. It defines the infrastructure’s governance and organization and ensures its long-term sustainability.
The current Consortium Agreement was signed in 2025. It runs through December 31, 2029, with the possibility of extension via an amendment.
The Agreement was signed by six partners: Inserm, the National Research Coordination Committee (CNCR), the Conference of CHRU Directors-General representing hospitals, France Universités, the European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN), and the French Federation of Healthcare Industries (FEFIS), representing healthcare industry stakeholders (the main sponsors and key players in the French clinical research ecosystem).
This collective and unifying initiative marked a new phase in the structuring of French clinical research. It is part of a broader initiative, launched in particular with the establishment of the Health Research Programs Agency in 2024 and the signing, in 2025, of the Joint Declaration of Intent between universities, university hospitals (CHUs), and Inserm for a shared site policy.
F-CRIN is also the European partner of ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network), a European non-profit intergovernmental organization that supports multinational clinical research in Europe.
