CRI-IMIDIATE is a national clinical research network dedicated to immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs). It brings together centers of expertise in rheumatology, internal medicine, and pediatric rheumatology to conduct collaborative research projects that benefit patients and advance therapeutic innovation. Designated an F-CRIN network of excellence since 2014, it draws on a community of clinicians, researchers, and patients committed to improving the management of IMIDs.
CRI-IMIDIATE, the clinical research network on immune-mediated inflammatory diseases
The CRI-IMIDIATE network is a national clinical research network dedicated to immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs), developed as a continuation of the Club Rhumatisme et Inflammations (CRI) (https://cri-net.com). Its mission is to encourage and facilitate multidisciplinary and collaborative clinical research projects in the fields of rheumatology, internal medicine, and pediatric rheumatology.
The network brings together research centers located throughout the country and draws on a broad community of clinicians, researchers, patients, and academic and industrial partners, all committed to improving the management of IMIDs. The F-CRIN designation, held since 2014, attests to the quality and structure of its clinical research activities.
Through its cross-disciplinary approach, CRI-IMIDIATE plays a central role in the national ecosystem of research on IMIDs. It collaborates closely with the FAI²R rare disease health network (https://www.fai2r.org) and the CRI to promote collaborative and synergistic projects that benefit patients and advance therapeutic innovation.
Organization
The CRI-IMIDIATE network is coordinated by Prof. Adeline Ruyssen-Witrand (rheumatologist at Toulouse University Hospital), Maxime Samson (internal medicine specialist at the Dijon University Hospital) and Marie-Louise Frémond (pediatric rheumatologist at Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, Paris).
CRI-IMIDIATE currently comprises 57 centers spread throughout the country. Thanks to its national network and recognized expertise, the network facilitates the development of multicenter clinical research projects—both academic and industrial—from study design through to scientific dissemination.

Diseases studied within the network:
- Inflammatory osteoarticular diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathies, juvenile idiopathic arthritis
- Connective tissue disorders: systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, Sjögren’s syndrome, inflammatory myopathies, mixed connective tissue disease, antiphospholipid syndrome
- Autoinflammatory diseases: Still’s disease, familial Mediterranean fever, Vexas syndrome, Kawasaki disease, cryopyrinopathies, interferonopathies
- Vasculitides and other IMIDs: Giant cell arteritis and rhizomelic pseudopolyarthritis, Susac syndrome, IgG4-related disease
Completed Projects and Notable Achievements
Each year, the network contributes to concrete advances in clinical research, with several studies completed. Here are a few examples:
This randomized, multicenter study compared the immune response to the PCV13 pneumococcal vaccine in patients with RA, depending on whether methotrexate was initiated at the same time as vaccination or one month later. In patients with early-stage RA, the PCV13 vaccine administered one month before methotrexate improved immune responses without a significant effect on disease control during one year of follow-up.

Rare systemic autoinflammatory diseases are a group of hereditary diseases or those of unknown origin, characterized by nonspecific symptoms (fever, skin rashes, joint pain) and difficult to diagnose, often leading to treatment errors. The objective of this study is to identify biological markers in patients’ blood, urine, or stool in order to develop rapid and effective diagnostic methods. This would help reduce the time it takes to initiate appropriate treatment.
