The Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (Inserm), coordinator of the "F-CRIN" National Clinical Research Infrastructure, and the Centre Scientifique de Monaco (CSM) have formalized a major collaboration. The aim is to promote the development of clinical research in the Principality, and to ensure new relays for F-CRIN-accredited thematic networks through the creation of a new association: M-CRIN (Monaco Clinical Research Infrastructure Network). The agreement was signed on February 7, 2025 at the Ministry of State in Monaco, in the presence of Mr Christophe Robino, Minister-Councillor for Social Affairs and Health, and Mr Lionel Beffre, Minister-Councillor for the Interior of the Principality of Monaco.

A partnership to strengthen clinical research in Monaco

In 13 years, the "F-CRIN" National Clinical Research Infrastructure, supported by Inserm, has become a key player in clinical research in France thanks to its vast network of experts and partners. The organization stands out for its central role in selecting, labeling and supporting the development of nationwide healthcare networks dedicated to clinical research, investigation and expertise. A genuine model of integrative organization, unprecedented in France and Europe, F-CRIN acts both as an incubator enabling 21 networks to reach full maturity and as a driving force for federating a community committed to a collaborative scientific approach. F-CRIN also facilitates the multinational clinical trials of ECRIN (European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network), thereby strengthening the impact of European research.

For its part, the Centre Scientifique de Monaco (CSM), a public research establishment of the Principality of Monaco dedicated to scientific, fundamental and applied research since 1960, wishes to favor the development of clinical research in the Principality, in particular the realization of multicenter studies.

At the initiative of Dr. Christophe Robino, Councillor-Minister for Social Affairs and Health of the Principality of Monaco, Inserm and the CSM sign a strategic agreement protocol associating M-CRIN. This Monegasque association, created to mark the signing and hosted by the CSM, brings together researchers and doctors in the Principality who wish to develop their clinical research activity by collaborating with F-CRIN

This strategic agreement pursues several objectives:

  • Impel a collaborative dynamic by fostering ambitious, innovative projects in the field of human health;
  • Link M-CRIN researchers with F-CRIN-labeled networks to share common expertise and practices ;
  • Offer high-quality support through F-CRIN's shared services, such as legal expertise, quality assurance, communication and training;
  • Facilitate regulatory compliance of research projects, particularly in clinical promotion approaches.

A collective commitment to scientific excellence

The protocol is based on a shared vision: to integrate Monegasque medical teams into an ambitious collective scientific approach and enable them to participate in clinical research of international stature.
A monitoring committee, made up of members from the three partners, will oversee the smooth development of this collaboration. This committee will meet annually to assess progress and define new directions.

The partnership agreed on February 7 represents a dual opportunity, for Monaco to strengthen its role in clinical research and scientific innovation, by drawing on the recognized expertise and resources of a research infrastructure, and reciprocally, for F-CRIN to integrate new centers and teams into its accredited networks.

The signing of this new agreement, in the presence of Christophe Robino, Advisor-Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Lionel Beffre, Advisor-Minister of the Interior, Prof. Didier Samuel, Chairman and CEO of Inserm, Pr. Patrick Rampal, Chairman of the CSM Board of Directors, Pr. Patrick Rossignol, President of M-CRIN and F-CRIN representatives, Pr. Olivier Rascol, Coordinator and Vincent Diebolt, Executive Director of F-CRIN, mark a symbolic milestone.

Created in 2012, supported by Inserm and funded by ANR and the Ministry of Health, F-CRIN (French Clinical Research Infrastructure Network) is an organization of excellence serving French clinical research. Its aim is to strengthen the competitivenesś of French clinical research internationally, identify and label national research networks, facilitate the setting up of academic or industrial clinical trials, and develop the expertise of clinical research players by pooling know-how, objectives and resources.
