Founded in 2013 and designated a F-CRIN Network of Excellence since 2025, RENARCI is the national clinical research network in infectious diseases dedicated to structuring and organizing national and international clinical research—both industrial and academic—in the field of infectious diseases. The network brings together experts committed to improving prevention, diagnosis, and care for patients with bacterial infections and to combating antibiotic resistance.
RENARCI, the National Clinical Research Network for Infectious Diseases
RENARCI is a national network dedicated to clinical research on infectious diseases. Created at the initiative of the infectious disease community, the French-Language Society for Infectious Diseases (SPILF) and the College of Academics in Infectious and Tropical Diseases (CMIT), it brings together experts in infectious diseases under a shared strategy to enhance France’s appeal as a location for clinical trials in infectious diseases.
By bringing together experts and research centers across the country, RENARCI offers a single point of entry for project leaders. It supports the development of multicenter studies—whether national or international, academic or industry-led—by providing methodological, regulatory, and organizational support at every stage, from the formulation of the scientific question through to operational implementation.
The network thus helps improve project organization, facilitate collaborations, and accelerate patient recruitment for studies.
RENARCI’s mission is to support the development of more structured, transparent, and effective clinical research in infectious diseases by enabling projects to materialize and be implemented on a national or international scale.
Organization
RENARCI is currently coordinated by Prof. David Lebeaux (AP-HP Lariboisière Hospital) and Prof. Xavier Duval (AP-HP Bichat-Claude Bernard Hospital). Operational management is handled by two project managers, Nathalie Gastellier and Claire Pernin.
The network is supported by two bodies:
- the Steering Committee, which defines the network’s strategic directions
- the Research Commission, which supports the Steering Committee regarding the network’s scientific directions.
These two bodies are composed of experts from the SPILF, CMIT, and the French Society of Microbiology (SFM).
RENARCI currently comprises 98 centers spread across metropolitan France and the overseas departments, demonstrating the French infectious disease community’s interest in the network. These centers are affiliated with university hospitals (CHU), general hospitals (CH), military hospitals, and private hospitals.

Current Projects
The network is currently involved in several large-scale, multicenter studies that are helping to shape therapeutic innovation and advance clinical practices in infectious diseases, including:
A randomized trial evaluating early oral therapy in stabilized cerebral abscesses versus prolonged IV therapy, with a non-inferiority objective at 6 months and a goal of simplifying treatment.
Trial of an adaptive platform for Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, aimed at identifying strategies to reduce 90-day mortality through an adaptive design.
Phase 3 trial comparing a single dose of dalbavancin to standard IV therapy in catheter-related bacteremia.
Adaptive platform trial in sepsis aimed at precision medicine based on patient profiles, evaluating several targeted interventions.
A trial comparing rifabutin and rifampin in staphylococcal osteoarticular infections, aiming for equivalent efficacy with better tolerability.
Real-world study on Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections: DTR to optimize the use of new antibiotic therapies in the face of antibiotic resistance.
An international adaptive platform for community-acquired pneumonia that continuously evaluates treatments or treatment combinations in a dynamic setting.
